Soundtrack to My Blog (and other writings): January

These songs are ones I played multiple times, usually on repeat, while sitting down to write this month. I have a habit of latching on to a song or an album (V by Maroon 5 is EVERYTHING!!!) and not letting go until I hate it but have to hear it "just one more time and then I can sleep." Let's see if any of these carry on into February. Papaoutai by Pentatonix Let it Go by The Last Sleepless City (it's January--it was just Christmas ya Grinch!) Merry Christmas, Here's to Many More by Relient K (see above ya Grinch!) Chap Stick, Chapped Lips, And Things Like Chemistry by Relient K Do or Die by Thirty Seconds to Mars Sugar by Maroon 5 In Love With the 80s (Pink Tux to the Prom) by Relient K American Secrets by Parachute Blank Space by Taylor Swift Bright Lights by Thirty Seconds to Mars Girls by The 1975* Shut Up and Dance by Walk the Moon I Want it All by Karmin Rather Be by Pentatonix Beating Heart by Ellie Goulding Thinking Out Loud...

Lazy Confes...

I hate working out. If it weren't for my overactive imagination, I would weigh 900 lbs. I eat fairly healthy (if there are cupcakes or popcorn I'll eat all of them, but that's a work in progress thing. Maybe related to my age...hmmm...do you think eating all of someone else's birthday cupcakes and not asking if anyone else wanted the last one is a thing of youth? Will I grow up and out of that in my 30's? That seems too soon...maybe in my 50's? I might have kids by then, maybe I'd share with them. No, you're right, I especially wouldn't share with them. They get everything else, why should they have my cupcakes I made for them on their birthday? What were we talking about?) I eat fairly healthy. I drink plenty of water, have a naturally low-sodium diet because I'm a vegetarian (unless you count popcorn, but it's corn and that is a vegetable so no we can't count popcorn), I eat lots of fruit and granola, eating really isn't the pro...

Famous People and Ugly Ass Hats

Image
How does this happen?! I love a good accessory, especially a hat! Not everyone can do hats, or all kinds of hats. For example, I look awesome in all hats except cowboy hats, which isn't that much of a loss. But famous people should look good in everything, right?! And maybe they would if they wouldn't choose such ugly hats! Again I ask, how does this happen?! Why does this happen? Come on, guys! You make so much money, some of you for doing nothing! And yet we care. We care so much about what you do and who you do, and that you go to Starbucks just like us! and especially what you wear. And you wear this? Never forget. #denim Ain't nobody stealin' this hat yo Canada! A classic in the horrible hat genre. The hat that launched a thousand ugly hats She calls it 1930s Vulcan. I call it craft day gone wrong. Why do I care? Because Rose McGowan (pictured above in the felt space helmet) has declared via Twitter (which makes it law) that it is Hat...

Confessions of a Singleton

IT'S CONFESSION TWO-FERS-DAY!!! I know. I know!! You all loved it so much last time and were wondering when it was coming back. Well here it is my little peach pits! One Tuesday. Two Confessions. I was hanging out with some friends a few weeks ago and we watched a few episodes of 30 Rock,  and the one   where Liz Lemon starts choking came on. Now, as a single woman who lives alone (just like Liz Lemon! I'm basically Tina Fey, guys!) I know exactly what to do in that situation, so I started yelling, "fall on the counter!" because that's what you do! There are just things you need to know to keep yourself alive. I love living alone, I just do. It doesn't scare me to be alone; I need my space, lots of quiet, and I like being by myself. I'm alone, but never lonely. And yet... Confession: I am afraid of living alone for two very good reasons: choking and undies.  Choking to death is a legitimate concern! It is a very serious fear that I have and only ...

Do I Really Love the Man Braid or Just Jared Leto?

Image
Obviously I ask the tough questions. A lot of things happened at the Golden Globes on Sunday. We found out that you could take a massive 12 year risk and make a great film ( Boyhood ), Wes Anderson looks exactly the way you think he will, Amal Clooney proved any and all office parties are boring, and Tina and Amy killed it, like we knew they would, including their completely brilliant joke about Bill Cosby (rape jokes are never funny; jokes about the man who refuses to discuss or acknowledge his 32 accusers except to make his own poorly timed jokes about rape , are well deserved AND hilarious). But the most important thing that happened, is we got the mraid (man braid for any confused, but we're not supposed to call it that . I'm saving you from unnecessary embarrassment). Jared Leto has spoken: man braids are in for 2015! I've always had a thing for guys with long hair. Don't get me wrong, not every guy can pull it off, but if you can (and Jared Leto can), oooo...

Leaving Texas... kind of...

My body may have left Texas, but my mind hasn’t. Has anyone else had the experience of making a new friend after high school and wondering how in the world you’re going to explain yourself? How do you get someone to understand all the things that went into making you who you are now? My life in Texas didn’t end the way it was supposed to and I’m left wondering how to understand this narrative of my life? How can I trust that everything about me makes sense? One of the first things I did on returning to Phoenix was attend my friend Monica’s wedding where I sat at a table comprised of 3 couples, and me. They were all artists of some kind: actors, singers, writers, directors, theatre company owners, and me. I was none of those things. “You’re an art lover,” Shelby said. I am an art lover. But I wasn’t an artist. So when Shelby and Brian offered me the chance to be apart of Brelby, I was very reluctant. What could I possibly offer a theater company made up of people with so mu...

A Confusing Confession

This is a throwback to a confession I made a few years ago . Shameless plug, if you haven't read through the beginning days of my blog, I don't blame you, but it's all about my two week journey through New York and it's a delight. But to the confession! Confession: I'm confused by "penguins". I don't really believe in them. Not like in an abusive, you'll never amount to anything, kind of way, but an I don't believe they're real kind of way... ...admittedly, it's very strange. Ever since I was a kid, I haven't been convinced the "penguins" I see in the zoo are real. I thought there was a chance that the ones swimming around in the water are real, but the ones standing on the ice are robot "penguins". They look too still or too mechanical to be real. Like the Tim Burton Batman penguins. And I can't shake it. If you clicked the link and read about my trip to the Central Park Zoo you'll see that a...
